The Freedom Academy

The Freedom Monthly Newsletter.

Over the next couple of months we will be focusing on Spirit, Body and Mind.  Usually this is referred to as Mind, Body and Spirit but I have deliberately reversed this because I have found that there is to much focus in this world about ‘The Power of the Mind’.   I personally started my journey to try and learn more about my mind because I felt that if I could master my mind I could master everything and to some extent I was right but what is incorrect about a lot of Mind teaching is that we tend to believe that all we are is ‘Mind’, overlooking everything else.  We are also given the perception that our mind is what makes us special and ‘superior’ from everything else, gives us dominion over our planet when in actual fact the reverse is true!

It is actually our Mind that hurts us; and it is our collective Mind that is hurting our planet and all that exists within our planet as we know it.  What is interesting is the thing that is so ‘revered’ is actually a tool that if not used correctly can destroy us.  Eckhart Tolle likens the Mind to a parasite attacking the Host and to be honest I think this is the best description I have ever heard and it is utterly true.  Amazing hey?  Who would have thought something that is so ‘revered’ by mankind is actually the part that is hurting mankind the most.

How does the mind do this, it does this via ‘The Ego’ – the other name you could give ‘The Ego’ is critical self or good cop, bad cop.  We all agree that we have a ‘voice’ that speaks to us.  This voice more often than not tells us that we are too fat, too thin, useless, never succeed, can’t do that, can’t do this, what did you expect, you idiot.....bla bla bla.  This is our ‘bad cop’ and sadly often this voice is so loud you can’t hear the ‘good cop’.  This is the parasite attacking the host.  And this is the part of us that we need to learn to identify so that we can stop it controlling our every waking moment.

And it gets better!  This ‘bad cop’ can also play the wolf in sheep’s clothing
encouraging us to do things and take steps that often get us into trouble.  I know this from personal experience.  The interesting thing about my ‘bad cop’ is that for a long time I honestly believed it was my ‘inner guides’ helping me – yet when I look back over periods of my life, when my ego (the voice) was working at full speed and I ignored my gut, my inner knowing, my 6th sense, my feelings (i.e. the good cop aka the true angel) these where the times I got myself into the most trouble!  It’s quite incredible!

The voice – aka Ego is the part of us that convinces us that we can’t be happy because........or you will only be happy when......it is the part of us that makes us live in the future and the past and never in the only thing we’ve got – the present!  It also stops us from ever obtaining true happiness because we are always searching for something outside of ourselves to make us happy.

What is needed is for us to learn to identify this voice and more importantly learn how to ignore it! More importantly we need to start trusting our feelings because this is how ‘Spirit’ communicates to us.  We have to start to learn to ignore the mind chatter (monkey chatter) and listen to our inner knowing.  The only way we access this inner knowing is via our feelings.

Sadly life today is very demanding, and the more we speed up to try and meet life’s demands the more we move away from Spirit and into Ego.  This is why meditation is so important – it stops our monkey chatter and slows us down and helps us to feel better.  The amazing thing that I have learnt from meditation is the more I meditate, the better I cope in my life, my stress levels decrease, I communicate with my family more & I communicate better, I approach things proactively instead of reactively and generally feel great.  I also become more in touch with how I feel about something and can ignore or question my thoughts aka my ego.  I also find myself appreciating the present more and more.  So my advice is to start to meditate....its very easy and very necessary!

And as you adopt meditation as a habit, I think you will be very pleased as you start to see your results changing.

In the June Newsletter as a sequel to this newsletter we will be covering meditation in more depth, how it’s done, exploring the myths people believe about it and discovering the truth....and in the subsequent months we will be focusing on ‘Spirit’, ‘Body’, ‘Energy’ – so there are quite a lot of interesting topics coming up!  In the meant time take care and for those of you who already meditate.......happy meditating!

Take care
